Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, autoimmune condition, which means that for some unknown reason the body produced an inflammatory reaction that affects the myelin of neurons in the brain and / or the spinal cord. This can affect a person’s movements, as the brain is unable to transmit messages effectively from the nervous to the muscular system. The movements can be slower and uncoordinated leading to functional problems with one or both arms, legs or torso during daily activities. Motor disorders are often accompanied by sensory disturbances but at the same time and depending on the affected area, cognitive and psychological difficulties are likely to occur.
